The Undergraduate Inventor of the Year (UIY) 2015 competition was established by the IESL to encourage and stimulate creativity and interest in inventions among engineering undergraduates and provide opportunities for engineering undergraduates to organize and present their original inventions. It’s also a forum for networking within engineering undergraduates in Sri Lanka as well as members of industry and academia.
UOJ Engineering students’ team won the cup of the night cricket match held at the University of Peradeniya.
Students of the Faculty of Engineering went to Peradeniya to take part in a memorial tournament, named after late Mr. Calistus, emerged victorious. The match was held on 12th September 2015 as a night match. The venue was the main ground of the University of Peradeniya. Students from Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna, who went there to take part in couple of exhibition matches, outplayed the hosts and proved their strength. Being a newly blossoming faculty, those friendly matches with the senior faculties would help to enhance a tight bond between the engineering faculties of Sri Lanka.
Mr. Neorooshan Durairaja’s excellent performance in freshers’ inter faculty athletic meet
The University of Jaffna freshers’ inter faculty athletic meet was held on 25th and 26th, July 2015. Students from eight faculties participated in this grand sports meet. From Faculty of Engineering, Mr. Durairaja Neorooshan achieved 1st place in 10,000 m and 3,000 m and 2nd place in 5,000 m long distance race. Faculty students won the first prize on debate competition held at University of Jaffna.
A debate team consists of four members from our faculty emerged as champions in a debate competition organized by Department of Law on 13th March 2015 at the main campus of the University of Jaffna. The guys went on to clinch the title by defeating the teams from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Management. The members of the debate team are Messrs. B. Nilakshan, R. Neethan, Mudiththa Kumarasri and Salinda Lankapriya. The faculty of engineering proudly congratulates them for such an incredible performance and wish them all the best.n
Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah Award for Best Performance – E/13 batch first semester examination
The Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah award for the best performance is an excellent motivation award for the students to achieve the best in their free education system. For the first batch this award goes to two students, Mr. Ratnakumar Neethan and Mr. Arukattu Patabendige Yasindhu Sandaruwan as their achievement was the highest GPA.
The Award Concept:
The award is to be given every semester, and is awarded to the student who has the best overall academic performance in engineering in that semester. For students in their first three semesters, the award is given to the best overall academic performance in each semester in engineering, irrespective of specialty. Continue reading
Elite and Strikers selected for the grand finale of YGC3
Yarl Geek Challenge (YGC) is a competition aimed to find innovators and it gives support to new ideas for entrepreneurship. This time this was organized in collaboration with the Lanka Angel Network. In order to short list the participants of around 25 teams from many state and private Universities such as University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya, University of Jaffna and SLIIT, YGC has organized a three day selection competition. This selection event was targeted to check how the competitors’ ideas are flavored for a business model and the competitors were expected to demonstrate, if possibly, with their working prototypes in front of the audience and selection panel.
