Eng. M. Vignarajah obtained his B.Sc.(Eng) degree with Second Class Honors from the University of Peradeniya in Year 2000. Also he earned M.Phil degree from University of Peradeniya in Year 2005. Then he moved to United States and obtained M.Sc in Civil Engineering. His Ph.D is to be completed.
He has taughted in the Faculty of Engineering (University of Peradeniya), Department of Civil Engineering (Texas Tech University, USA), Kotelawala Defence University (Sri Lanka), IESL College of Engineering (Sri Lanka), etc. Also he has conducted workshops on applied finite element analysis for practicing structural engineers (with Emeritus Professor M.P. Ranaweera).
He has worked and managed number of large scale industrial projects which are listed below. Since June 2016, he is attached to the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Jaffna, as a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering. He enjoys the structural designs and forms of tall buildings, aerodynamics of tall structures, design of blast resistance buildings, real time dynamic testing of structures, etc. In fundamental studies, he is much interested and worked in the nonlinear continuum mechanics, nonlinear finite elements using incremental/nonincremental methods, large inelastic deformations, structural plasticity, ductile behavior of structres, etc. In his spare time, his involvement in the programming finite elements resulted in one of the efficient large scale finite element analysis program (NFEAP) which can be used in the solution of couppled nonlinear analysis of solids and structures, heat and mass transfer, and multi-physics.
He is an associate member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and member of Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS).
Nonlinear finite element formulations, Programming the finite elements, Element performance testing, nonlinear continuum mechanics, numerical methods, algorithms for transient problems, structural dynamics and vibration, earthquake engineering designs and detailing, tall buildings design, ductile structures, formulation of multi-physics and multi-field problems.
