An agreement was reached on 17th June 2014 between the University of Jaffna and Kelani Cables for a training program that would involve training electrical technicians, with input from the University of Jaffna. This will be done through the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering at Kilinochchi. The MoU signed this week would initiate training of young school leavers from the North who could develop their skills, subject to aptitude for such work. Further the agreement includes getting the industrial support to provide industrial training, industrial projects to embed the students education with the industrial nature.
Establishing Students’ Society
The founder students’ society was established on 16th June 2014 at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna. The committee members of the society were selected by unanimously by the students. Dr. T. Thiruvaran is nominated as Senior Treasurer for the society. Commencing the Construction Work of the Faculty Building Complex
The construction work of the Faculty of Engineering buildings was started on a remarkable day of the commencing of the Faculty of Agriculture at their permanent buildings at Kilinochchi premises of the University of Jaffna. Electronic dice as an Electronic Souvenir for the First Batch of Engineering Students
Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah, Head of School of Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales in Australia has donated components and the associated circuit diagram to make an electronic dice as an Electronic Souvenir for the first batch of Engineering students at the University of Jaffna. Each student was given the components and the circuit diagram and the students are expected to solder the components according to the diagram to produce an electronic dice and when the students successfully solder it that will be their souvenir. Students were very much interested in preparing their surprised souvenirs. This is not only a memorable souvenir but also it develops practical skills while motivating the students. This event was held during 1st week of June 2014.
