An agreement was reached on 17th June 2014 between the University of Jaffna and Kelani Cables for a training program that would involve training electrical technicians, with input from the University of Jaffna. This will be done through the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering at Kilinochchi. The MoU signed this week would initiate training of young school leavers from the North who could develop their skills, subject to aptitude for such work. Further the agreement includes getting the industrial support to provide industrial training, industrial projects to embed the students education with the industrial nature.

The MoU was signed between Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, Senior Professor, Vasanthy Arsaratnam and CEO Kelani Cables Mr. Mahinda Saranapala. Dr. T. Thiruvaran and Mr. Ralph Roshan are appointed as course coordinators to obtain the services from both the University as well as industry for the betterment of the country.
