Rehabilitation of the existing hostel building, in the Kilinochchi premises, has been completed. All the first year girls of the Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture got the accommodation within the University premises from July 2014. Currently the boys are continuously staying in large houses closer to the faculty, which were hired by the University of Jaffna. Further free transport facility is given to the students to travel between accommodation and the Faculty. The hostel facilities provide tremendous support to the students to perform the best in their studies.
Train station to Ariviyal Nagar
Base stone was laid for Ariviyal Nagar Train Station on 28th July 2014 by the Member of Parliament Mr. M. Chandrakumar, Government Agent Mrs. Rubawathi Ketheeswaran, Chief Engineer Eng. Premkumar from Sri Lanka Railways, Deans of the Faculties of Engineering & Agriculture, Deputy Registrar Kilinochchi, Divisional Secretary, Deputy Director of Irrigation, Chief Engineer from the RDD, Design Engineer from CECB and Managers from the industries of MAS Intimates Vidiyal, MAS Active Vaanavil and Cargills Kist Food Processing Center. Discussion with Professor N. Ravichandran
Professor N. Ravichandran was visiting the Faculty for two weeks till 18th July 2014. He was mainly discussing the curriculum of the Department of Civil Engineering. Ravi graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 1997, where he was the batch-top for three years and obtained number of awards. Currently he is working as an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at Clemson University in the USA. Continue reading
Industrial talk on solar power technology for generating electricity
Engineer Nani Pradeepan, who is a graduate of University of Moratuwa, has visited Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna and deliver a presentation on solar power solutions to the first batch of engineering students on 18th July 2014. He explained the importance of solar power and the abundance of solar power. Then he described the state-of-the-art solar systems and installations such as different types of solar panels, solar systems and installation of solar arrays and inverters. It was an interesting talk to make awareness and provide overall technical information on the current hot topic of renewable power technologies
Kilinochchi School development proposal submitted to His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa
The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna closely worked with Kilinochchi Madhya Maha Vidyalayam to develop a proposal on improving infrastructure and human resources of the school. The crew comprised of the Principal, Vice Principal, School Works Engineer and Teachers of the Kilinochchi Madhya Maha Vidyalayam were determined to bring the school to an outstanding position in Northern Province. Visiting Researcher to the Faculty of Engineering
Eng. S.Kuganesan engages with research works of Jaffna lagoon under the supervision of Dr. (Eng.) S.S.Sivakumar at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna. He will be with the Faculty for one month from mid July 2014. Eng. Kuganesan is currently working as a Hydro-power/Water Resources Engineer in Energy Division at Norconsult AS, leading engineering and design consultancy in Norway.
India sign MOU with Ministry of Higher Education to assist the Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture at Kilinochchi
The Government of India has partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka to assist the Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture for the University of Jaffna at Kilinochchi. A Memorandum of Understanding between the two Governments for the implementation of this project was signed on 14th July 2014 between the High Commissioner of India, Mr. Y.K. Sinha and the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne, in the presence of Honorable S.B. Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education, Government of Sri Lanka and Professor Vasanthy Arasaratnam, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna.
