A program targeting the concept of energy saving and promoting alternative energy technologies to achieve green electricity consumption was launched by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA). An interactive full day program was conducted on 19th December 2014 at the Auditorium of Kilinochchi newly built District Secretariat Office, targeting the potential officers from the Government and other organizations. Main focus of this program was to uplift knowledge on improving energy efficiency without compromising the comfort and quality of service delivered to the occupants. It is evident that a significant proportion of useful energy is wasted due to inappropriate behavior in energy consumption. Implementing a few simple techniques can help to minimize the wastage, which in turn considerably reduces the expenses on importing fossil fuels.
This program was conducted by SLSEA in collaboration with Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna and District Secretariat, Kilinochchi. It was an excellent program with very close and interactive discussions. Suggestions on reducing the energy consumption in Government organizations were collected from the Government officers during the discussion sessions. These sessions were guided by experts in individual field of study. Some of the distinctive ideas were recommended to be implemented by SLSEA in next year. Moreover, this seminar was facilitated by speeches and technical presentations. Initially, Mrs. Mrs. Rubawathi Ketheeswaran, Government Agent Kilinochchi, gave a welcome address to the resource persons and participants. It was followed by the technical presentations of seven resource persons Dr. Thusitha Sugathapala (Director General, SEA), Eng. Ranjith Pathmasiri (Deputy Director General Operations, SEA), Eng. Namiz Musafer (Country Manager, Practical Actions), Professor P. Ravirajan (Faculty of Science, UOJ), Eng. J. Amalendran (Electrical Engineer, CEB), Eng. Parakrama Jayasinghe (President, Bio Energy Association) and Dr. A. Atputharajah (Faculty of Engineering, UOJ). Active contribution of more than 100 participants was observed in this event.
