Dr. Gurusinghe, retired Senior Lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya is helping the Faculty. He is helping as a visiting lecturer, from 4th August 2015, to conduct the surveying course. It is really great to get services from Dr. Gurusinghe, as he is a very resourceful person in surveying with over 30 years of experience on teaching surveying courses.
Dr. Gurusinghe obtained his BSc Eng (Honours) degree in Mining in July 1979 from Camborne School of Mines, Cornwall, England. He obtained his MSc degree in Engineering specializing in Geotechnical Engineering in September 1989 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He obtained his PhD degree specializing in Transportation Engineering in April 2003.from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. He has experience with construction, mining and teaching in Sri Lanka as well as foreign countries. From November 1989 until retirement in December 2013 he worked as a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students the subjects of Mining, Land Surveying, Hydrographic Surveying and Transportation Engineering. He introduced underground surveying and hydrographic surveying in the Surveying syllabus and pioneered teaching the Transportation Engineering core course for Civil engineering undergraduates. He conducted hydrographic surveys of intermediate reservoirs of Raja Rata. He has undertaken consultancy in Stabilization of Rock slopes, Mining, Quarrying and Blasting operations. Since retirement he is conducting visiting lectures in Mining and Mineral Processing, Mineral Industry Waste Management and Surveying for undergraduate and postgraduate programs of University of Peradeniya.
