Dr. Kasivisvanathan Chelvakumar visited the Faculty of Engineeringon 28th August 2015 and hold discussions with dean and the staff about the possible services he can render to the Faculty. He agreed to come and serve the mechanical Engineering section of the department of Interdisciplinary studies on contract basis in the near future. We consider his vast knowledge and experience will immensely contribute to the development of the mechanical engineering as well to the faculty. As we are lacking of senior staff members in mechanical engineering presently, his timely assistance is very much appreciated.
Eng. Ajith Alwis delivered a talk at the Faculty on “Solar Power Technologies”
The faculty invited Eng. Ajith Alwis, on 28th August 2015, to deliver a talk on solar power for the first batch of students, who are specializing in the field of Electrical and Electronic engineering. It is also part of the course unit on Electric Power (EC4030) in their fourth semester of study. This course unit expects to provide a detailed study on power generation. Renewable energy generation is one of the promising topics, which will be discussed in detail in this course. In order to provide more knowledge on latest development in wind and solar power generation, a guest lecture is included as part of the course.
Civil Engineering Student Society is formed at the University of Jaffna
Inaugural meeting of civil engineering students’ society was held on 28th August 2015. The office bearers were selected by members: (i) President- Mr. S. Mayooran, (ii) Secretary- Miss. V. Tharsikka, (iii) Vice president- Mr. K. Thanusan, (iv) Treasurer- Mr. J. Luxan, (v) Editor- Mr. N. Anusuthan and Senior Treasurer- Dr. Daniel Subramaniam.
Mr. Sunith Fernando delivered a talk at the Faculty
Mr. Sunith Fernando is an expert in Wind Power Generation who has hands on experience of 40 years in Renewable Energy Development in Sri Lanka. Hence, his lecture was a valuable resource for the undergraduates. The faculty invited him, on 28th August 2015, to deliver a talk on wind power for the first batch students, who are specializing in the field of Electrical and Electronic engineering.
