There are emerging problems associated with water resources planning, development and management in the Northern Province with the accelerated development work after the end of conflict. This program was conducted from 18th to 22nd September 2015, at the training center of the Faculty of Agriculture, University Jaffna located in Kanagarayankulam.
WaSo Asia Second Semi- annual meeting
WaSo Semi-Annual Meeting was held from 19th to 20th September 2015 at Tilko City Hotel, Jaffna. Professor Vasanthy Arasaratnam, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna participated as the chief guest. Prof. Harsha Ratnaweera, Prof. Tore Sætersdal and Miss. Anne Gry represented the Norwegian partners.
Cricket match between Department of Irrigation and Faculty staff
A friendly cricket match was organized between the staffs of the Department of Irrigation at Kilinochchi and Faculty of Engineering. This was organized at the cricket ground of the Kilinochchi premises of the University of Jaffna on 15th September 2015. It was an excellent opportunity for both Department of Irrigation and faculty of engineering staffs to interact closely and share a light moment.
One Day Workshop on Microsoft Project 2010
One day workshop on Microsoft Project 2010 was held on 12th September 2015 at Computer Center Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. This workshop funded by WaSo project and organized by University of Peradeniya. Six participants (Mr. Saliya Sampath, Mr. Senturan, Ms. DVL Kishani, Ms. A Janaki, Mr N Kannan, Mr Uthiyakumar) attended from University of Jaffna, from both Engineering and Agricultural faculties as well as financial branch.
UOJ Engineering students’ team won the cup of the night cricket match held at the University of Peradeniya.
Students of the Faculty of Engineering went to Peradeniya to take part in a memorial tournament, named after late Mr. Calistus, emerged victorious. The match was held on 12th September 2015 as a night match. The venue was the main ground of the University of Peradeniya. Students from Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna, who went there to take part in couple of exhibition matches, outplayed the hosts and proved their strength. Being a newly blossoming faculty, those friendly matches with the senior faculties would help to enhance a tight bond between the engineering faculties of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Daniel Niruban Subramanium joined the Faculty from 8th September 2015
Dr. D.N. Subramanium joined the Faculty in the permanent cadre of the Department of Civil Engineering from September 2015. He has specialized in Environmental Engineering. Environmental concerns are increasing for human good life in the world. The Faculty absorbed him for teaching the students with the most important area in Environmental Engineering.
Dr. D N Subramaniam obtained his BSc. Eng (Hons) from University of Moratuwa in 2008 and continued to read for his MSc. at University of Southampton, United Kingdom and graduated in 2009. Continue reading
Dr. P. Kathirgamanathan joined the Faculty from 8th September 2015
Dr.P.Kathirgamanathan joined the Faculty in the permanent carder of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies from September 2015. He has specialized in Mathematical and Mechanical Engineering. He is one of the ideal candidates to teach Engineering Mathematics and he has been recruited to teach the same.

Eng Shavindranath Fernando, Former President IESL delivered a popular talk on “Role of Engineers in Society” at the Faculty of Engineering. It was organized by IESL University of Jaffna (IESL-UOJ) Student Chapter in collaboration with the IESL Northern Provincial Chapter (IESL-NPC). The talk was delivered on 5th September 2015 at 4.15pm in a lecture hall. All the students of the Faculty of Engineering, staff and few engineers around Kilinochchi area attended the talk. Government of India aid to construct Mechanical Engineering Building complex
As one of the development partnerships between India and Sri Lanka, Government of India has come forward to fund the construction and development of Mechanical Engineering section of the Faculty of Engineering through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Sri Lanka. The project encompasses construction of a building complex for Mechanical Engineering, purchase of equipment and furniture, and staff training and curriculum development. Continue reading
