Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways for the stakeholders, was held from 16th to 17th October 2015 at hotel Berjaya, Mount Lavinia. The workshop was attended by more than 120 participants from universities all over Sri Lanka. Dr. P. Kathirgamanathan, coordinator of the Faculty QAA cell attended the workshop.
The workshop was declared opened by the Director/HETC (Higher Education for Twenty-first Century) and the Chairman of the UGC. The remaining sessions comprised of small group activities and group presentations.
The main objective of the workshop is to review the already drafted manual of the best practices and standards of QAA. This manual is prepared in order to improve the capacity of higher education system and to deliver quality higher education services in line with equitable, social and economic development needs of the country.
The Faculty of Engineering has already taken necessary actions to keep its quality of the degree program from the beginning itself. As a part of it, Academic Development and Planning Committee (ADPC) was established in December 2013, to design the curriculum meeting the present trends and requirements. Moreover, most of the academic staff of the faculty participated in Outcome Based Education (OBE) seminars, Accreditation workshops conducted by Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), QAA seminars, Sri Lanka Quality Framework (SLQF) seminars. In September 2015, the faculty QAA cell was formed to ensure the quality is in line with the present standards. Recently, Faculty level QAA has taken initiatives to assess the course files and provide feedback and suggestions to the lecturers to ensure the best practices are being followed in teaching and learning activities.
