Professor Sri Sritharan from the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at Iowa State University delivered a talk and held a discussion with the staff on 12th August 2015. The discussion touched on the possibility of future collaboration on a visiting basis. It was an excellent motivational talk for the students. The talk covered engineering education in general and concluded with laying out the path of technological growth in Engineering.
Mr. Vignarajah, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (KDU), is helping the Faculty as visiting lecturer from 7th August 2015. He completed his BSc Eng and MPhil degrees from the University of Peradeniya in 2000 and 2004. He also completed MSc Eng degree from the Texas Tech University in USA with a GPA of 4.0 out of 4.0. He is currently reading for his PhD at the Texas Tech University while serving as a Senior Lecturer at KDU, Sri Lanka. He specializes in structural engineering and served as a consultant to industries since 2008.
Dr. Nalin Wickramanayake, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering, Open University of Sri Lanka is helping as a visiting lecturer from 6th August 2015. He completed his BScEng degree with first class honours from the University of Peradeniya in 1985, MScEng and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1989 and 1993 respectively. He has worked in Sri Lanka, USA, Australia and Maldives.
Dr. Ramesh Dhere, from University of Illinois at Chicago, visited the Faculty of Engineering and delivered a talk to the students and staff. It was held on 5th August 2015. The talk addressed the latest development with some history on Climate Change and Renewable Energy. Dr. Ramesh completed his PhD at University of Colorado, Boulder, USA and now he is an adjacent professor at University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. Continue reading
Dr. Gurusinghe, retired Senior Lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya is helping the Faculty. He is helping as a visiting lecturer, from 4th August 2015, to conduct the surveying course. It is really great to get services from Dr. Gurusinghe, as he is a very resourceful person in surveying with over 30 years of experience on teaching surveying courses.
Professor Nallanathan visited the Faculty on 3rd August 2015. He had an interactive discussion with the staff members of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The staff had discussion on the Electrical and Electronic Engineering curriculum in general and detail discussion on the wireless communication andrelated subjects. Finally, he deliveredan hour long talk to students on latest developments in communication technology. Continue reading
Dr. T. Thiruvaran visited the University of New South Wales in Australia during the vacation period, from 25th May till 31st July on invitation from Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah, Head of the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, who was also helping a lot to contribute to the development of the curriculum, preparation of course materials, lecture notes, giving guidance to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Jaffna. During this visit, Dr. Thiruvaran was updating his research path with the leading University in Australia while strengthening the collaboration between UNSW and University of Jaffna. These visits to foreign leading University and collaborative work with foreign Universities will strengthen the Faculty of Engineering towards better quality of teaching and research.
The University of Jaffna freshers’ inter faculty athletic meet was held on 25th and 26th, July 2015. Students from eight faculties participated in this grand sports meet. From Faculty of Engineering, Mr. Durairaja Neorooshan achieved 1st place in 10,000 m and 3,000 m and 2nd place in 5,000 m long distance race. With his achievements, the faculty of engineering was ranked 6th among 8 faculties. Continue reading

The course was conducted for 9 days during the vacation period of the Faculty of Engineering between 22nd May 2015 and 25th July 2015. Dr. A. Anburuvel, the resource person for the course, designed and conducted the course on the request of Mr. S. Meihandan, Deputy Team Leader, Vic Roads, International Project.
