Prof. Harsha K. Chelliah visited us on 27th April 2016. He took part in discussions with the head of the department and mechanical engineering lecturers. The discussions included curriculum development, project initiations and post graduate opportunities for young lecturers. Seminar on Outcome Based Education: An Overview and Documentation
Academic Development and Planning Committee (ADPC) invited Prof. S. Ilanko from University of Waikato, New Zealand to conduct a workshop on Outcome Based Education (OBE) on 25th April 2016 (Monday) from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. The title of the session was ‘Outcome Based Education: An Overview and Documentation’. Prof. Ilanko has a vast experience in working accreditation committee backed in New Zealand. Dean and Heads attended workshop on financial regulation on 25th April 2016
University of Jaffna has altogether 10 faculties operating in importantly three different places such as Jaffna, Vavuniya and Kilinochchi. It is a challenge for the administration to operate with minimum number of human resources. Therefore the finance branch conducted a workshop on the newly developed structure on delegation of powers for efficient operations. This was held on 25th April 2016. All the administrative staff including deans and head of the departments participated in this workshop.

Vice Chancellors and Deans of the Universities in Sri Lanka, attended the workshop organized by the UGC on 22nd April 2016. This consultative workshop was on “Preventing Ragging and Sexual and Gender-based Violence in Universities” and it was held at the Galadari Hotel. Invitation for Bids – Supply of Civil, Computer Engineering, IT Equipment and Laboratory Furniture: The bid has been called on 20th April 2016 to supply equipment for the Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering and IT Equipment and Laboratory furniture. Both Heads of the Departments, Lecturers and Technical Officers were working very hard as excellent team to order the best standard equipment for the experiments to be conducted at the Faculty. Professor Kanes K Rajah, who is the Royal Agricultural University Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, visited the Faculty of Engineering on 19th April 2016. Discussion with him by the Faculty staff, gave directions with Entrepreneurships. Professor Alfred A. Christy who is from the Faculty of Engineering and Science, University of Agder, Norway, visited the Faculty of Engineering on 8th April 2016. He visited with his team to discuss the opportunities of pursuing postgraduate studies, staff exchange and possible research collaborations. Dr. Tony Sahama visited to the Faculty for a discussion with young staff and Heads of the Departments
Dr. Tony Sahama, who is the coordinator Queensland University of Technology (QUT) for the split program agreed upon between QUT and UGC, visited the Faculty of Engineering on 4thApril 2016. This visit was arranged to discuss about the opportunities of pursuing postgraduate studies at the QUT at Brisbane Australia. The University Grant Commission has signed an agreement with the QUT for motivating the young permanent academic staff to do the postgraduate studies at the QUT. There were collaborative fundings from both the UGC as well as QUT for this program. This has opened up an excellent opportunity for the young staff to complete their postgraduate studies with full funding. Continue reading

The WaterH Second Project meeting was held in Queen’s Hotel Kandy Sri Lanka from 30th March to 2nd April 2016. This meeting was scheduled as per the Partnership Agrееmеnt on Harmonizing water related graduate education (Water Harmony) with Еrasmus+, that supports projесt сooреration bеtwееn ten Universities in Norway, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, China and Sri Lanka.
