Mrs. A. Anusuya received full scholarship to pursue her postgraduate studies at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She served as a Lecturer (Probationary) at the Department of Interdisciplinary studies from June 2014 till June 2016. She left the department on 30th June 2016 to read for her PhD studies in Australia. The faculty thank her services to the Faculty at the beginning stage and wishes her for the best success in her PhD research.
Professor Murugesu Sivapalan visited to the Faculty
Professor M. Sivapalan visited to the faculty on 30th June to have a discussion on future collaborations. It was an excellent discussion with few heads of the department and the dean. He agreed to help in future with the Faculty more closely. The Faculty thank his valuable time on spending with the staff members in discussion and his intention to help the faculty in the future in many different ways.
Eng. S. Niranjanan delivered a talk on “An Overview of Typical Geotechnical Investigation”
Eng. S. Niranjanan, from Diaz Yourman & Associates, California, USA, visited to the Faculty on 27th June 2016 and delivered a talk on an overview of typical geotechnical investigation. This was an excellent overview of how Geotechnical knowledge is used in practice. The students were very well motivated towards geotechnical subject due to the inspiration from the excellent experienced professionals such as Professor N. Ravichandran and Eng. S. Niranjanan.
Faculty students participated to the startup weekend program
First Ever Startup Weekend in Sri Lanka was conducted to change the world in 54 hours! This mainly to bring participants’ creativity and skills to startup the business. Prof. N. Ravichandran visited to the Faculty to give his services
Prof. N. Ravichandran from Clemson University, USA visited and served as a contract appointment at the faculty of engineering for five weeks from 23rd June 2016. He engaged in teaching Geotechnical Engineering and Design for third year civil engineering students. In addition to teaching, he involved in developing curriculum, designing labs, preparing strategic plan of the faculty and mentoring young academics. Even before this visit, he has been actively involving in helping the faculty for a longer period. His earlier visits to the faculty was in December 2015 and July 2014.
Workshop on “Office 365” was conducted to all the staff members
A session for introducing Office 365 Education for Faculty of Engineering staff was held on 22nd June 2016 at the computer laboratory. Mr. S. Thananjeyan, Mrs. J. Pratheeba and Miss S. Jananie conducted the session. The contents of the session are introduction of Office 365 academic package, the usage of the package for the faculty, collaboration workspace using SharePoint sites and the use of Classroom for teaching and learning activities. The session was concluded with the hands-on lab session. Most of the academic staff of the faculty of Engineering participated in the session.
A delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) from the United States visited to the Faculty
A delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) from the United States visited to the Faculty on 21st June 2016. The MCC is an independent U.S. government agency focused on global poverty reduction. This is the MCC team’s third visit to Sri Lanka and they are analyzing the constraints affecting certain sectors’ ability to generate even more jobs and income. Sri Lanka was selected for a threshold program, which comes with a series of smaller grants, but is being considered for a compact program, which would include large, five-year grants to revolutionize specific sector(s). PosonDansala celebrated
First year students (E/15 batch) of Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna celebrated the PosonPoya day. They organized a Posondansala on 19th June 2016. They prepared a good looking hut at Ariviyal Nagar junction on A9 road and gave water melon fruit to the people passing through the A9 road. Second year and third year students also helped the dansalaevent with friendship. It was a really interesting event and Dean of the Faculty and Mr. SaliyaSampath, lecturer of the Faculty participated to this event. Continue reading
Train station to Ariviyal Nagar
The National Development Bank and the Sri Lanka Railway have signed the document to establish the Ariviyal Nagar Railway Station. The master plan, structural plan, architectural plan all were developed and approved to start the work from June 2016. The Coordinating Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) arranged a two-day conference on “National Level Innovation and Intellectual Property Policy Conference” on June 14, 2016 at Hilton Colombo Residencies.
