An introductory session for the IEEE society was organized in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna on 16th July 2016 from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon. Five members from IEEE Sri Lanka section were presented as the resource persons for the event including Mr. Tharindu De Silva, the Chairperson of the IEEE Membership Development in Sri Lanka.
This workshop had five sessions and inaugurated with a welcome speech by the Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Mr. Tharindu De Silva continued the event with an introduction to IEEE and shared his experience on why he joined IEEE. Next, Mr. Subodha Charles shared his experience as a student volunteer in IEEE. An interactive session for the undergraduates was conducted by Mr. Dhenosyan Nadarajah where the undergraduates were divided into groups and actively performed a given task. Later, Mr. Pasan Pethiyagoda, made a valuable talk on “IEEE Young Professionals and Career Perspectives”. The event ended with a speech on “Benefits of IEEE” by Mr. Hasala Dharmawardana. It was a valuable event for the undergraduates of 2013/E and 2014/E batch and will be helpful for form the IEEE student chapter of our Faculty and obtain many benefits from IEEE.
