The 60kW roof top pilot solar power plant at the Faculty of Engineering was operated with grid connection net-metered operation from 14th October 2016. It consists of 55kW string converter configuration with three sets of converters and 5kW of micro converters configuration concept. Each panel is 250Watts and total of 240 panels were placed at the roof top of the first building of the Faculty of Engineering. This was inaugurated with the gracing of Prof. Vasanthy Arasaratnam, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, Eng.HarshaWickramasinghe, Deputy Director General(Strategy) of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Eng. D.K.P.U. Gunathilake, Deputy General Manager (North), Ceylon Electricity Board, Dr. A. Atputharajah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Dr. T. Thiruvaran, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. There were many participants including Professors, Researchers, Other academic staff, Engineers, Managers, Government Administrative officers and students.
