Students of 2013/E and 2014/E who are specializing in the fields of Electrical & Electronic Engineering visited Eluvaitheevu hybrid power station, which has the wind power generation as well as the solar power plant in a small scale. This power plant is operated islanded mode to supply this small island.
Talks by Eng Krishna Nadaraja and Eng. Chandrikaa Balendhran
Engineers Krishna and Chandrikaa shared their experience by delivering talks, on 25th July 2016, to the Civil Engineering students. These talks covered the engineered application of chemical additives such as quicklime and cement into soil that results in permanent physical and chemical alterations. Further the environmental based sustainable development was stressed with already implemented environmental projects. These talks gave knowledge and confident to the students in terms of development projects together with the environmental concerns.
Dr. George Gunendran visited to the Faculty
Dr. A. G. Gunedran visited us on 25th July 2016. Dr. A. G. Gunedran is presently working as a PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) Application Specialist in Progress Rail (a Caterpillar Company), Sandiacre, Nottingham, UK. He did his PhD in Manufacturing Engineering, at Loughborough University, UK (2000 – 2003) and B. Sc. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering in University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. (1993 – 1997).
Mr. R. Valluvan was recruited to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Mr. R. Valluvan received his B.Sc. Eng (Hons) degree with first class honours in 2007 from University of Peradeniya and obtained his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering focusing on Telecommunications in 2010. He is pursuing his Doctoral degree at University of California, Irvine. Presently, He joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering as Lecturer (Probationary) from 18th July 2016.
E-86 Batch graduates from the University of Peradeniya visited to the Faculty
Dr. Nageswaran Kumaresan together with his team organised a visit of their batch (E-86), graduated from the University of Peradeniya, to the Faculty of Engineering University of Jaffna. It was a wonderful day to the Faculty with number of very senior Engineers, who shared their experienced knowledge while showing the way forward of young Engineering graduates. The students and the staff of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna are very pleased to the Senior Engineers, who hold many top level positions, for explained the trends in Engineering for the students.
IEEE Introductory session for the Faculty students
An introductory session for the IEEE society was organized in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna on 16th July 2016 from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon. Five members from IEEE Sri Lanka section were presented as the resource persons for the event including Mr. Tharindu De Silva, the Chairperson of the IEEE Membership Development in Sri Lanka.
Dr. S. Niranjan visited to the Faculty of Engineering
Dr. S. Niranjan Visited to the Faculty of Engineering on 14th and 15th of July 2016. He had an interactive discussion with the staff members of the Department of Computer Engineering on Computer Engineering curriculum, laboratory development and Computer Engineering program accreditation process. He was a panellist in the discussion which was held on 15th of July 2016 with the student and the staffs of the Faculty of Engineering. His visit was a golden opportunity to share his thought with the students and the staff of the Faculty of Engineering.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society (EEES) formation
The inaugural meeting of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society (EEES) was held on 13th July 2016 (Wednesday) at 4.30 pm at lecture hall 2 of faculty of engineering, University of Jaffna. Dean-Engineering Dr. A. Atputharajah, Head – Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Dr. T. Thiruvaran, Head-Department of Computer Engineering Dr. A. Kaneswaran, lecturers Dr. V. Cynthujah, Mr. R. Valluvan, Mr. S. Thanenjayan, Ms. S. Jananie, Mrs. P. Jeyananthan and students from department of electrical and electronic engineering participated.
Complete curriculum developed for the Faculty of Engineering
Detailed and comprehensive curriculum of the Faculty of Engineering is designed and approved by the Senate, University of Jaffna held in July 2016. This was carried out for last three years and finally come to the end. There have been many leading experts from local and foreign universities; and from the industries, helping us to design the curriculum. Dean, heads of the department and the lecturers took diligent care and effort to develop the curriculum to cater the needs of the present needs of engineering industry. The development of curriculum is based on Outcome Base Education (OBE) conforming to Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) requirements (National Standard for Engineering Education), Washington Accord requirements (International Standard for Engineering Education) and Sri Lanka Quality Framework (SLQF) requirements under the category of Bachelor Honours Degrees.
