The roof top solar pilot power plant installed at the Faculty of Engineering in September 2016. This was left on running by inaugurating its operation from October 2016. Then the operation was monitored and it was showing excellent operations as expected. The Kilinochchi is already known as excellent operation for solar power plant. This was proven by the roof-top-solar power plant at the Faculty of Engineering. The roof top pilot plant contains 55kW of String Inverter System and 5kW of Micro Inverter System.
This was installed with the help of Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant obtained through the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy (MoP&RE). This was given to all four Universities: Moratuwa, Peradeniya, Ruhuna and Jaffna. Once the project installation was completed, the demonstration and handing over of the project components were done on 8th April 2017. In this event, the Vice Chancellor Professor Vasanthy Arasaratnam, many industry Engineers, Government administrative officers, Academics, Researchers and Students were participated. The faculty and the University thank the ADB, SEA, MoP&RE for giving this opportunity to demonstrate the viability of the solar power plant in this region.
