As a part of the MoU signed between India and Sri Lanka, construction and development of Mechanical Engineering section of the department of Interdisciplinary studies, Faculty of Engineering was carried out from September 2015 to May 2017. The building construction project worth of LKRs 256 million was done by Link Engineering. This building complex includes mechanical engineering laboratories, lecture theaters, computer aided design lab, administrative offices, lobby and court yard. Basically it has the comprehensive set up for conducting the Mechanical, Manufacturing and Process Engineering study program.
The completed building was ceremonially opened on 30th June 2017. The occasion was graced by Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, Minister of Higher Education and Highways, His Excellency Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India, Hon. Reginald Cooray, Governor of Northern Province, Professor Ratnam Vigneswaran, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna along with deans, council members, heads of the departments, senate members and other distinguished guests.
