Waste for life project found method for “Roof sheet Making Process” at the Faculty of Engineering

The Waste for Life is a project was initiated by Dr. Randika Jayasinghe together with the leadership of Profesor Caroline Baillie from the University of Western Australia. This was one of the excellent project which proven its outcome. This was initiated in August 2014. This was target to develop Community-based Waste Recycling Businesses, with particular focus on the progress in Northern Sri Lanka. It was excellent hard work of the team headed by Dr. Randika, Dr. Cynthujah and Mr Ashokcline Thayalan.

Guest Lecture on “Perspective of a Good Civil Engineer” by Eng. Eng. T.L.R. Thilak Silva

Eng. Eng. T.L.R. Thilak Silva deliver a talk on the Perspective of a Good Civil Engineer to the students in the Faculty of Engineering. This was organized by the Civil Engineering Society on 23rd June 2017. Eng. T.L.R. Thilak Silva is Deputy General Manager (Construction) Maga Engineering (Pvt.) Ltd. The talk was excellent and very well attended by the students and staff of the Faculty of Engineering.

WHII, WHE+ and WM MSc Summer course 2017

This program was organized by Water Harmony Erasmus+ (WHE+), Water Harmony Eurasia ii (WHII) and Water Magic (WM) projects. Three students from University of Jaffna attended WHII, WHE+ and WM Masters Summer School courses at Oslo, Norway from 19th June till 7th July 2017: (1) Mr. Nirojan Kumaradevan, Master Student doing the research part at the Faculty of Engineering, (2) Mr. Vigneshwaran Vijayakanth, PhD Student at the Faculty of Engineering and (3) Mr. Kuddithamby Gunaalan, Lecturer, Department of Fishery, Faculty of Science. All these students attended from UoJ with the support from the WHE+ project of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering University of Jaffna.

WaSo MSc Summer course 2017

This summer course program was organized by Water Society and Climate Change project (WaSo). Two students from University of Jaffna attended WaSo Masters Summer School courses at Oslo, Norway from June 19 – July 7, 2017: (1) Mr. Nagamuthu Piratheeparajah, Lecturer, Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and (2) Ms. Piratheepa Vipulan, Lecturer, Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts. This visit was supported by the WaSo project attached to the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna.

The team from the Faculty of Engineering, the Dean Professor A. Atputharajah, Heads of the Departments Dr. T. Thiruvaran, Dr. A. Anburuvel, Dr. A. Kaneswaran and Dr. B. Ketheesan from Department of Civil Engineering, had very good interactive discussion for couple of hours in South California on 10th June. This visit was coordinated by Eng. P. Piratheepan and his team. Number of professionals participated to this event. It was pleased notified that Mrs. Thurairajah was invited for this discussion. Professor K. Chelvakumar was also participated to this discussion, who knows the Faculty of Engineering operations, as he visited few times and served the faculty, by staying a month per year.

The higher level administration team of the Faculty of Engineering met few Engineering Professionals at California, USA

The team from the Faculty of Engineering, the Dean Professor A. Atputharajah, Heads of the Departments Dr. T. Thiruvaran, Dr. A. Anburuvel, Dr. A. Kaneswaran and Dr. B. Ketheesan from Department of Civil Engineering met few Engineering professionals during the dinner time discussion at California USA. The team stayed with the Engineering professionals residential places and therefore the discussions were held during 7th to 9th June 2017 at their residential places in small groups. It was excellent and nice to meet the graduates, who graduated from Universities of Peradeniya, Moratuwa and Ruhuna. The discussions were on meeting friends, possible collaborations, networking, possible financial support for poor students, motivational awards for students and possible logistic supports for students exchange program. The faculty team thanking all the members in California and care for education, who helped for organizing this excellent activities while networking with leading professionals.

Dr. Ravindra Wijesiriwardana presented at international conferences

Dr. Ravindra Wijesiriwardana take part in two conference held in Shanghai China and conducting a guest lecture at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He conducted a lecture on nonlinear acoustics at the Media Design PolyU on an invitation by Dr. Gino Yu. He also got the chance to see their lab facilities, virtual reality projects, Ambisonic setups and discuss with Ph.D. Students. This opened up possible collaborations with the Ambisonic group at PolyU and possibility of jointly or remotely supervising some of their Ph.D. students. Also the team agreed to give the full support for Ravindra’s research requirements of advanced acoustic tests. Ravindra also delivered an invited presentation at Consciousness Science Technology and Society Conference (CSTS) held on the 9th of June 2017 in Shanghai. The talk was “Emptiness of Consciousness from Buddhism and Science Perspectives” it is available at Research gate online.

The technical team of the Faculty visited to the University of California San Diego, USA

The team was separated in to two category such as Administration and Technical. The technical team includes the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies – Dr. A. Anburuvel and Dr. B. Ketheesan from Department of Civil Engineering visited to the University of California San Diego. This visit was done on 8th June morning and it was coordinated by Professor N. Ravichandran and supported by care for education. The team visited centrifuge and shake table facilities at the University of California San Diego.
