Mr Saliya Sampath, Mr K Mayuresan and Mr S A Xavier attended One – day Workshop on Urban Drainage / Flood System Analysis and Green Intervention Design on 13th August 2016 at Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. This is organized by WaSo Asia project of University of Peradeniya. Resource persons of the workshop are Prof. Assela Pathirana and Prof. S.B. Weerakoon. WaSo Asia project of University of Jaffna sponsored above participants from the University of Jaffna.
Dr. T. Thiruvaran served as member of the Executive committee of JUICE conference


Dr. T. Thiruvaran served as member of the Executive Committee of the Jaffna University International Research Conference (JUICE) 2016. This conference is considered as one of the outstanding event to increase the visibility of the University of Jaffna at the International level. The Faculty staff also starts supporting this conference as the Faculty is growing with number of staff. This conference is an excellent hard work of a team consists of all 10 faculties’ staff members. The conference was successfully conducted on 12th – 13th August 2017 and the team was headed by the Faculty of Arts.
Progress meeting of the Engineering Faculty Building works


The faculty building complex worth of 1520 million rupees construction was commenced on 14th of June 2014. Another 800 million for equipment and 200 million approved for furniture. Further, 300 million rupees is granted by the Indian Government to construct a building for Mechanical Engineering, and to purchase workshop equipment and other facilities.
Field trip to S-Lon factory

The Mechanical Engineering students visited S- Lon factory in Negombo on August 12th 2016.
Students of 2013/E batch who are specializing in the fields of Mechanical Engineering following a core module on Advanced Machine Design for the sixth semester of their curriculum were present with other staff members. Students experienced with the real field exposure on Machine design and factory process. Visiting professor, Prof. K. Chelvakumaran arranged the field visit in collaboration with S-Lon, Capital Maharajah organization. The faculty thank the S-Lon Pvt Ltd for their help on organizing this field trip to the Mechanical Engineering students.
Mechanical Engineering students visited to the S-Lon Factory as field visit

A field visit was organized to visit to the S-Lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, on 8th August, to help the students to develop skills while learning the knowledge where and how it is applied in industries. Dr. Kasivisvanathan Chelvakumar initiated this field visit together with the Department staff members while Mr. Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed, Factory Director of the S-lon Lanka (pvt Ltd, helped to organize the Factory visit with technical explanation team. The factory is at Ratamedapara, Singakkuliaya, Yogiyana, Sandalankawa. During the factory visit, its operations were very well explained with technical background to the students.
Professor Kasivisvanathan Chelvakumar is teaching at the Faculty
Dr. Kasivisvanathan Chelvakumar appointed to the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies as visiting professor from 6th August 2016. He is teaching to the Mechanical Engineering students. He also visited here already in two times in 2015 for a discussion as well as for teaching. We consider his vast knowledge and experience immensely contributed to the development of the mechanical engineering discipline while students were enjoying his teaching in the past. He created number of connections to the Faculty for future collaborations. His timely assistance is very much appreciated.
Professor Logen Logendran delivered a talk on“Hybrid Flow Shop Batch Scheduling Problem with a Bi-criteria Objective”


Dr. R. Logen Logendran is a Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Graduate Program Chair in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, USA. He delivered a talk on “Hybrid Flow Shop Batch Scheduling Problem with a Bi-criteria Objective”at the Faculty of Engineering on 2nd August 2016. The participants includes Undergraduate students, Industrial Engineers, Staff members and researchers. It was excellent to understand the optimum schedule on industrial machinery’s operations starting from a resource person with strong knowledge in this section.
Farewell to Dr. V. Cynthujah and appreciating her services
Dr. V. Cynthujahjoined the Faculty after her PhD degree from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia in 2014. She left the faculty on 31st July 2016 as she need to travel with her family members for good. She rented her excellent services to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering during her stay. Her contributions to the Faculty and the Department at its initial stage and with number of developments were very essential and she did those with her full involvement. Continue reading
Constitution for the UBL of the UOJ


Professor Kanes K Rajah, who holds the Royal Agricultural University Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, help to draft the proposed constitution for the University Business Linkage for the University of Jaffna. He visited to the Faculties of Engineering, Agriculture and Management during the last week of July 2016.
Hydro Power Plants Visit


The Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering students and staff have visited to some major power stations of Sri Lanka. The field visit included Victoria, Laxapana, Nilambe mini hydro and Wimalasurendra power stations for two days. It was organized by the subject coordinator Dr. V. Cynthujah under the course “Renewable Energy”.
