Elite and Strikers selected for the grand finale of YGC3

Yarl Geek Challenge (YGC) is a competition aimed to find innovators and it gives support to new ideas for entrepreneurship. This time this was organized in collaboration with the Lanka Angel Network. In order to short list the participants of around 25 teams from many state and private Universities such as University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya, University of Jaffna and SLIIT, YGC has organized a three day selection competition. This selection event was targeted to check how the competitors’ ideas are flavored for a business model and the competitors were expected to demonstrate, if possibly, with their working prototypes in front of the audience and selection panel.

Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah donated electronic dice souvenir to the students.

Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah, Head of School of Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales in Australia, has continued the Electronic Dice Souvenir project for the second batch of engineering students of Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna. This project was very well appreciated by the first batch and now continues with the second batch students. He has donated all components and the associated circuit diagram to make an electronic dice as an Electronic Souvenir. Continue reading

Survey Instruments donated to the Department of Civil Engineering

Re-awakening Project, Provincial Project Management Unit (North) under Ministry of Economic Development handed over complete sets of 2 total stations and 5 levelling instruments to the Department of Civil Engineering. Five new laboratory attendants were recruited to the Faculty

The University of Jaffna has recruited laboratory attendants purely based on performance in the examination and interview. It is a golden opportunity to get five of those laboratory attendants to the Faculty of Engineering. This will help to build up the faculty with the performance based human resources. The faculty thanks all the top level officers from the University, UGC and the Ministry of Higher Education for their help in the recruitment process. Continue reading

Drawing Instruments donation

 

The Engineering graduates from E/01 batch, Peradeniya, presently living in Australia donated Drawing Instruments worth of approximately Rs. 95, 000 to the Engineering Students Society (ESS). Presently, ESS lend drawing instruments to the students when they need it for a small amount of rent. This rental plan was first proposed by the first batch and continues successfully for the second batch too. Continue reading

Eng. (Dr.) Mrs. Premala Sivaprakasapillai Sivasegaram delivered a talk

Eng. (Dr.) Mrs. PremalaSivaprakasapillaiSivasegaram delivered a motivational talk to the students of the Faculty of Engineering. Eng. (Dr.) Mrs. PremalaSivasegaram has the unique distinction of being the First Lady Engineer in Sri Lanka. Usually the engineering profession in Sri Lanka is largely dominated by male. However, the situation is better now than what it was in 1950s. The talk was excellent in motivating the students while inspiring them to work towards success in their life. Continue reading

Happy family and happy country – Talk by Dr. V. Jegaruban

A general talk was given by Dr. Jagaruban to make awareness to the students on common problem they may experience and few ways out real examples. Further, he discuss some common problem where the University students experiences during their golden University life while using the technologically advance devices. This is an excellent interactive talk with the students, to keep them aware on some unexpected experience may occur in some of their life. This talk was sponsored by the HNB and the Faculty thank the resource person and sponsor of this social event.
