Tamil-Sinhala Teaching Program

Tamil Sinhala teaching program stared on 10th January 2017 for all the students from E13, E14 and E15 batches. It is also open to any persons from staff or students to learn the Tamil and Sinhala languages. This course contains 100 hours of lectures. The main focus of this course is to learn how to understand and talk with each other persons while learning little bit on writing and reading.

Mr. S. Thananjeyan got full scholarship for his PhD research at University of Melbourne

Mr. S. Thananjeyan received Honours Degree of BScEng with first class from University of Moratuwa in 2009. He has been working for Embla Software Innovation (pvt) ltd for four years since 2009. He served as a senior software engineer since 2012. He is a Certified Scrum Master. He joined the Faculty of Engineering University of Jaffna in 2013. He received Masters in Business Administration in Information Technology (MBA-IT) from University of Moratuwa in 2014. He is currently reading for PhD at the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of University of Melbourne in Australia since 9th January 2017. He received Melbourne Research Scholarship which is an Elite PhD Scholars’ Program jointly offered by the University Grant Commission of Sri Lanka and Melbourne School of Engineering, University of Melbourne, Australia.

Dr. M.K. Ahilan was recruited to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Dr. M.K. Ahilan joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka in January 2017 as a senior lecturer. He was working as visiting researcher at Speech, Audio, Image and Video Technologies (SAIVT) lab, Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He is holding Australian and Sri Lankan Citizenships since 2016.Continue reading

Dr. Ravi Wijesiriwardana was recruited to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Dr. Ravi is specialized in the multi-disciplinary field of wearable physiological information monitoring systems. He received his PhD from University of Manchester UK from the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences in 2005. His PhD has resulted the first electro mechanics model for the electro conductive fabric structures and Novel Fiber Meshed Transducers for wearable physiological information monitoring systems. His work has produced two international Patents and startup companies as smart life technologies Inc UK and in Textronics Inc USA.Continue reading

Purchase of Civil Engineering Design Codes: SLS-EN Standards

The faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna, has purchased civil engineering design codes from the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI). Structural and Geotechnical Designs are core entities of civil engineering curriculum, based on Eurocodes (EN-Standards). The following codes (690 documents, almost 3 million worth) are available in the engineering library for the usage of students. Faculty Library was shifted to the new building

The library of the faculty was established just together with the faculty in February 2014. The faculty curriculum is completely based on the Outcome Based Education (OBE). Therefore the lifelong learning and self-learning are most important items in the Faculty Education Systems. Religious activities for blessing the new environment

Students of faculty of engineering organized religious activities for Hindu, Buddhist, Christianity and Muslim students on 31st December 2016 and 1st January 2017. Purpose of the event was to bless the newly built engineering faculty and bless the students, academic staff and nonacademic staff at Kilinochchi premises of University of Jaffna. Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students organized two hours talk on “Blockchain Technology: Opportunities?” on 26th of December 2016. This talk was done by Dr. Vallipuram Muthukkumarasamy, Associate Professor, Griffith University, Australia. The talks covered on Network security, cyber security research opportunities, Blockchain fundamentals, crypto currency transactions and evolution, hash functions and problems in Blockchain technology. Finally open up the research opportunities and future role of Blockchain technology.

Workshop on supporting interaction & understanding to promote Co-existence among university students

50 students from university of Jaffna attended ‘Workshop on supporting interaction & understanding to promote Co-existence among university students’ at Islander Center (Seva Lanka Foundation), Rajanganaya, Anuradhapura from 21st – 23rd December 2016. Around 20 engineering students, medical students and art students attended the fully residential three day workshop.
