D. S. Sampath presented paper at an International Conference

Mr. Sampath presented a paper at an International Symposium on Advances in Civil and Environmental Engineering Practices for Sustainable Development (ACEPS 2015) at Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Hapugala, Galle on 9th March 2015. Conference was jointly organized by Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ruhuna and Saitama University, Japan. This symposium is organized to create a forum to discuss such advanced sustainable engineering practices that are adopted in developing the region.

He has presented one of his master research finding in the technical session of “Costal and Lagoon Environment (Part I) & River Engineering and Hydro informatics”.

Donation from Eng. P. Vigneswaran

Eng. P. Vigneswaran, Director of oortu organization, donated equipment and furniture. A discussion on enhancing the services of the Faculty of Engineering was held at Oortu office in September 2014. This is to serve the community by uplifting their knowledge and skill through vocational education. It was planned to start the electrician course linking with Kelani Cable industry. There were few items of equipment and furniture categories were donated related to the vocational training on electrician, masonry and carpentry. Miss. H. Krishnarajah, Lecturer from the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, attended a training workshop on “Biomass to Energy in Industrial Applications” held from 19th – 21st February 2015 at MAS Fabric Park, Thulhiriya. The three days training program organized by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority with GEF-UNDP-FAO Funded Project on “Promoting Sustainable Biomass Energy Production and Modern Bio-energy Technologies in Sri Lanka”. Meeting with Consul General India at the University of Jaffna

Indian Consul General Mr. A. Natarajan and Vice Consul Mr. S. Srikanth visited the University of Jaffna to have a discussion with the Vice Chancellor and the Deans of the Faculties. The meeting was held at the Board room of the University of Jaffna, on 13th February 2015. The meeting was with full of fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas, including Government of India’s assistance of 300 million each for Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture. Continue reading

Workshop on ENERGY PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT in Northern Province

This program on “Energy Productivity Improvement” was conducted on 7th February 2015 at the auditorium of District Secretariat office, Jaffna. It was organized and held with the purpose of sharing the knowledge in energy productivity improvements with the government officers, academia and energy experts in the country.  The energy productivity and energy saving are playing a vital role in the developing regions of this nation. At present, Northern Province is a developing area after 30 years of conflict. Therefore, this awareness program was conducted at the appropriate moment through knowledge sharing to the government officers in Jaffna District in collaboration with the University of Jaffna.

Visit of Officials from MAS ACTIVE Factory, Mihinthale to the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna

Managers and Engineers from MAS Active Factory in Mihinthale branch paid an official visit to the Faculty of Engineering on 29th January 2015. They delivered a talk and presentation to the undergraduates and explained the projects that have been handled in their factory to improve the productivity while minimizing the time taken and energy usage. They also focused on improving the safety features in the factory.

Mr. S. Thananjeyan, Lecturer from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, attended five days’ workshop on “Network Security” at Information Technology Center, University of Peradeniya organized by SANOG. The twenty fifth South Asia Network Operators Group (SANOG) conference was hosted by LEARN in the historical city of Kandy, Sri Lanka from 16thto 24thJanuary 2015. 2014 PES Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award to the Faculty Member

Dr. A. Atputharajah was awarded with the outstanding engineer award of IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) chapter 2014. He received this prestigious award during the Annual General Meeting of IEEE PES Sri Lankan Chapter-2014 at University of Moratuwa on 24th January 2015, as a recognition of his outstanding contribution towards power engineering profession. This award remunerates his remarkable services such as his leadership as a chairman of IEEE PES Sri Lanka chapter 2012/13, his immense contribution in field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Sri Lanka and his accomplishment in establishing a new Engineering Faculty in a war affected zone.
