Mr. D. S. Sampath participated in the 4th symposium organized by the Young Scientists Forum (YSF) of National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) on 23rd January 2015 at Hector Kobbekaduawa Agriculture Research and Training Institute (HARTI), No.114, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7. Nine technical sessions were conducted during this conference with three parallel sessions as a time.
Meeting by Rotary Club of Kilinochchi Town at the Faculty of Engineering
The Rotary Club of Kilinochchi Town Organized a meeting for potential members from the faculty to learn about Rotaract. The Rotary Club of Kilinochchi town has in its membership; Doctors, Engineers, Directors, Managers, School Principals, Retired Professionals, Business Developers from Private and Public sectors. It is not only a club that has most number of professionals by percentage they have vast hands-on experience in their fields of expertize. It is also recognized as a club that has one of the biggest number of charter members.
Establishment of IESL Student Chapter, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna
Dr. (Eng.) S.B. Wijekoon, Chairman, Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) visited the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi on 19th January 2015. His visit was a follow-up event after the opening ceremony of a new office for the IESL Northern chapter which at Old Kachcheri premises, Kilinochchi.
Thai Pongal celebration by students of the Faculty of Engineering on 15th January 2015
The first and second batchof students of the Faculty of Engineering celebrated Thai Pongal day on 15th January 2015. They all gathered early in the morning to cook pongal in front of male hostel, Kilinochchi premises and went on to have a brief religious ceremony in front of the administration building of the Faculty of Engineering. The guys worked together in harmony to organize the event and finished it at a successful note. They shared delicious pongal with everybody in the premises that day. This is the first ever Thai Pongal event celebrated in the history of the Faculty of Engineering.
Assistant Professor Visvakumar Aravinthan visited to the Faculty
Assistant Professor Visvakumar Aravinthan from Wichita State University, delivered a seminar to the students on 5th January 2015. It was a very good opportunity to the students to interact with the experts from foreign Universities and get their knowledge shared with them. Different method of teaching, updated knowledge with ongoing research work will help the students to take up challenging projects for their undergraduate education.
Successful completion of orientation program for the second batch engineering students
Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna has successfully completed the five weeks orientation program for the second batch students on 2nd January 2015. Initially, 48 students were registered on 1st of December, at the beginning of the orientation program. The number of registered students increased up to 54 at the end of orientation program. The faculty targeted for an intake of 50 students as per the requirements from ‘University Grant Commission (UGC)’. Continue reading

The engineering faculty is in an accelerating process of converting the jungle area into green city and further to a knowledge city as its name ‘Ariviyal Nagar’ implies. It is very important to notice that the team work of all Faculty Staff, University Administrative Staff and Other Professionals, mostly Engineers, Medical Doctors, Political Members, District Secretariat and her office staff constantly help for the development of this faculty. Assistant Registrar completed the induction training program
Ms. Janaki Kanagarajah, Assistant Registrar of the Faculty of Engineering, successfully completed the Induction training program. This was organized by the University Grants Commission from 18th to 24th December 2014 at Hotel Janaki in Colombo, for the newly recruited executive officers. This was an excellent program which provides initial knowledge on the University history, rules and regulations, counselling, administrative matters, human relationship, communication skills, Organizational Management, etc.. Furthermore it was a very good opportunity to get to know each other officers and to build a good relationship with almost all the Universities in Sri Lanka.

Atputharajah co-chaired a session on “Sustainable Power and Energy Systems” conducted in 7th International Conference on Information and Automation For Sustainability (ICIAFS 2014).The conference theme was “sharpening the future with sustainable technology”. Donation from SEA to the Faculty of Engineering on 19th December 2014
A solar measuring station with online data transfer facility was installed at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna (UoJ) and operated by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) from March 2013. It was handed over to the Faculty of Engineering, UoJ on 19th December 2014 by Dr. Thushitha Sugathapala, Director General, SEA to the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering during a seminar session on sustainable energy development in Northern Province. It is one of the two calibrated solar measuring stations funded by ADB in Sri Lanka.
